This refers to the post:
In the end of the post is discussed what leads to rebirth. This is not directly tanha, is exlained. I think 3 sutta’s explain what leads to rebirth, SN12.38-40
https://suttacentral.net/sn12.38/en/sujato
https://suttacentral.net/sn12.39/en/sujato
https://suttacentral.net/sn12.40/en/sujatoThey are called cetana sutta’s, so they also seem to explain that cetana refers to the volition formations in plans and intentions but also to the volitional potential of latent tendencies. Those last also play a role in rebirth, apparantly. The sutta says that even when one does NOT have plans or intentions, or conscious thoughts, but still have latent tendencies towards a aramanna (i think) still that contributes to rebirth.
I think this is very important because it shows that what leads to rebirth is not always that conscious but seems also to be the volitional potential in tendencies. Isn’t that’s why anusaya must be uprooted to end rebirth.

My apologies, Siebe.
I somehow did not see your post until now.
Yes. Those are three important suttas. Unless we “get stuck” on an arammana and “start thinking and doing things” (generating vaci and kaya sankhara), that vinnana WILL not grow.
– Then one would not accumulate vaci kamma or kaya kamma.I will be discussing more on this in the next couple of posts. Thanks for pointing out the suttas.
P.S. There seems to be a problem at the forum main page. It is not updating to show new comments. I am trying to fix the problem.

Hi Lal,
When underlying tendencies activate, do you reckon this to be vaci and kaya sankhara or mano sankhara? I personally think it are not really verbal thoughts.

Siebe asked: “When underlying tendencies activate, do you reckon this to be vaci and kaya sankhara or mano sankhara?”
Yes. Vaci and kaya sankhara arise DUE TO underlying tendencies (asava/anusaya). We can also say that Vaci and kaya sankhara arise DUE TO our gati.
I have talked about this briefly in recent posts. I will refer to this, again briefly, in the upcoming new post. It will be elaborated on in upcoming posts.
