Recently I came across a mind opening and can be considered controversial written document for most if not all Buddhist / dhamma practitioners but not to me. Initially I was hesitant to introduce the written document to others, but after some consideration I decided I would introduce the document to others.

I just want to make it clear that I’m not Sri Lankan and can’t confirm or verify all the information presented in the written document but only hope to present the information for others exposure / use. What others make of it is up to the individual, others are free to think and say what they like. I have no interest in “debating” with others what’s written in the document since my mind was already made up before even coming across the written document linked below.

Why should Hela people be cognizant of the Janbudveepa of Buddha Gothama

Some years ago after learning of what’s written on Wikipedia about the Bodhi tree in India being completely destroyed by a storm and having read some Theravada Orthodox materials / sources where it mentions that the Bodhi tree can only be destroyed when the Buddha sasana is no longer in effect or that there’s no more Ariya’s alive on this planet. At that time, I started to question if the Bodhi tree in India was really the Bodhi tree where the Buddha gain enlightenment which pretty much all Buddhist believe or lead to believe. If I’m not mistaken recorded in Buddhist scriptures, while the Buddha was about to gain enlightenment, Mara created storms of wind, rain, rocks, weapons, live coals, hot ashes, sand and mud to prevent the Buddha from gaining enlightenment. If the Bodhi tree where the Buddha was sitting under / nearby can survive all the nature and non nature forces Mara called upon, how’s it possible that a simple storm can destroyed the Bodhi tree where the Buddha sat under for his enlightenment which is believed to be the one in India? I can only think of three possibilities which are:

      1) The Buddha sasana is over and that there are no longer any Ariya’s alive on this planet.

      2) The Theravada orthodox materials / sources / teachings are wrong.

      3) The Bodhi tree said to be in India where the Buddha gained enlightenment is not the actual Bodhi tree where the Buddha gained enlightenment.

I don’t know about others, but to me #3 is most likely the presumption / conclusion. Currently this is mostly all I have to say about this discussion.

Thank you for the document. I had not seen it.

      • Of course, this issue does not affect our goal of attaining Nibbana
      • Still, many people are interested in this issue. I believe that the truth will eventually reveal itself.

” Of course, this issue does not affect our goal of attaining Nibbana. “

I totally agree. Myself don’t place utmost importance on this issue but I happened to come across the document and thought to share it since I have come across some discussions in this forum and others that can relate to some of the things mentioned in the document.

Sir when you have the time or interest in taking a look at the document, please do provide some feedback at your convenience since I don’t have the familiarity / knowledge to verify or confirm all the information in the document and you’ll be much more familiar / knowledgeable with Sri Lanka’s culture, language and history.
