In this sutta, Lord Buddha talks about various objects of meditation (Kasina) which he teaches to his disciples. He even teaches meditation with colours and elements like fire. Is the English translation of the sutta correct or is it a misinterpretation? Mahāsakuludāyisutta

Furthermore, I have explained to my disciples a practice that they use to develop the ten universal dimensions of meditation.

Puna caparaṁ, udāyi, akkhātā mayā sāvakānaṁ paṭipadā, yathāpaṭipannā me sāvakā dasa kasiṇāyatanāni bhāventi.

Someone perceives the meditation on universal earth above, below, across, undivided and limitless.

      Pathavīkasiṇameko sañjānāti uddhamadho tiriyaṁ advayaṁ appamāṇaṁ;

They perceive the meditation on universal water …

      āpokasiṇameko sañjānāti …pe…

the meditation on universal fire …

      tejokasiṇameko sañjānāti

the meditation on universal air …

      vāyokasiṇameko sañjānāti

the meditation on universal blue …

      nīlakasiṇameko sañjānāti

the meditation on universal yellow …

      pītakasiṇameko sañjānāti

the meditation on universal red …

      lohitakasiṇameko sañjānāti

the meditation on universal white …

      odātakasiṇameko sañjānāti

the meditation on universal space …

      ākāsakasiṇameko sañjānāti

the meditation on universal consciousness above, below, across, undivided and limitless.

viññāṇakasiṇameko sañjānāti uddhamadho tiriyaṁ advayaṁ appamāṇaṁ.

And many of my disciples meditate on that having attained perfection and consummation of insight.

Tatra ca pana me sāvakā bahū abhiññāvosānapāramippattā viharanti.

But she decided that it would be better for her to become a bhikkhuni, a female member of the Buddhist Order. One day, after lighting a lamp, she kept her mind fixed on the flame and meditating on the fire kasina (object of concentration) she soon achieved Magga Insight and finally attained arahatship.

Hope you and every living being are doing well Jittananto,

In regards to the question if Lord Buddha taught meditation with colours and elements like fire, there’s been previous discussion’s with the same or similar questions. I hope you’ll find what you’re looking for.

Recently I came across a sutta that might be useful to see if the Buddha did teach colour or element meditation or not and if one does believe the Buddha did teach colour and / or element meditation, then the sutta teaches how the practitioner should view / perceive any of those attainments :)
