Many people say that they feel relief in the mind when they do some kind of meditation or pray to their God. Since they feel relief in that particular moment they believe that they are on the right track.
That is Niramisa Sukha, right?
But the problem is, that goes away after the person “comes back to the normal life”. All the stresses resurface again, and then they would again try to do those things to feel relief. Just like the Breath Meditation.
But the difference in Buddha Dhamma is , that Niramisa Sukha will become permanent.
As one realises the unfruitful nature of this Sansara, one would start to get rid of lobha, dosa and moha and that base level of Niramisa Sukha becomes permanent.
So this Panca Nivarana Suppression can act as a hindrance towards one path if one is ignorant of the Buddha Dhamma. One may suppress it to the extent that one may get to the 1st jhana, and his belief would become unshakable about the methods he used.
I have seen many people claiming such things and their beliefs becoming much stronger on what they do.

It is because of the fermentation of wrong views (ditthāsava)
1.Fermentation of sense desire (kāmāsava)
2.Fermentation of desire for continued existence (bhavāsava)
3.Fermentation of wrong views (ditthāsava)
4.Fermentation of ignorance (avijjāsava)
A sotāpanna eliminated the third. This kind of unshakable confidence in erroneous beliefs is present among puthujunas. There’s nothing we can do about it, it’s nature. Even a bodhisatta can fall into their trap during his journey.

- That is quite true. It is possible to get into jhanas by focusing on the breath (provided one abstains from immoral deeds and abstains from sensual thoughts for a long enough time.)
- Then they misinterpret that as getting close to Nibbana. Many yogis attained the highest jhanas and even cultivated supernormal powers even before the Buddha. They were not even close to Nibbana! They all were and still are puthujjana residing in Brahma realms right now.
- Buddhist meditation requires a solid understanding of Paticca Samuppada, Tilakkhana, etc.
- I will start a new series on that.
Gad: You are right. #3 is the first one to tackle. Until one gets rid of that, one is a puthujjana.
