ParticipantTheruwan Saranayi!
I don’t speak English, so I used Google Translate. Please understand.
First of all, I am glad that I came across the pure Buddha Dhamma.
Until I come across another version of the Dhamma that is more perfect and without contradiction, my faith in Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha based on the teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abayarathanalankara Thero will not be shaken.
May the correct Buddha Dhamma Sāsana last for a long time!
I am posting on the forum to request clarification because there is a misleading explanation in the Pure Dhamma sermon.
Or maybe I misunderstood. How can I understand this?

Counterfeit Buddhism – Current Mainstream Buddhism
There is a widespread belief that Buddha Gotama’s Buddha Sāsana will last 5000 years. However, I have not seen it in the Tipiṭaka. It could be in a later Commentary, but I have not seen such a commentary either.”
is different from the explanations in other sermons, so it may be misunderstood. What Kind of a Person is Sōvan Path-follower | With English Subtitles
This is said to be the disappearance of the Ministry of Buddha in the human world. But in the volumes of Atuwā (Commentaries), it is described that the Ministry of Buddha will not disappear for 5000 years. That means, even if various interpretations were given to the terms Anichcha, Dukkha, Anaththa, it is not until 5000 years that there won’t be anyone to explain the real meaning.

The Doctrine would not exist for a long time in the human world. The time will arrive when it is not possible to hear. As described in the volumes of Atuwā, the Sāsana of Buddha will end after 5000 years.

The Lord Buddha preached of the future dangers the ‘Buddha Sāsana’ would be facing some 2600 years back.
In the ‘Thithi’ sutta, ‘Pāhāna’ sutta, these have been explained. These are the factors that would lead to the degradation of the ‘Buddha Sasana’.
In the ‘Sathdhamma prati-rupaka’ (Buddhist impostors) sutta, it is explained how the Buddhist impostors come to be. The ‘Sugata Vinaya’ sutta, depicts how the ‘Buddha Sasana’ would go into its decline.
‘Sathdhamma sammōsa’ sutta explains the same thing. The ‘Thunweni anagatha baya’ (the third future fear) sutta describes certain fears that would take hold of the ‘Buddha Sāsana’ in the future.
If the Lord Buddha preached that certain fears would come over the ‘Buddha Sasana’ in the future that would lead to its ultimate demise, some 2600 years back; we need to understand the timeline of this future.
Is it today or at the end of some 5,000 years (to the life of the ‘Buddha Sasana’)? We need to think it through. We need to understand that the ‘Buddha Sasana’ is currently going through a period of decline. We don’t hear about the presence of the Nobles (‘Ariya sawaka’).
Dear meritorious devotees, it’s clear that Lord Buddha’s utterance from 2600 years back is currently a reality. In the ‘Maha Supina’ (Significant Dreams) sutta, the 12th and the 13th dreams, illustrate ways in which the ‘Buddha Sasana’ would be affected. King ‘Kosala’ had 16 dreams.
He inquired about them from the Lord Buddha. “Sire, those dreams have no bearing to the present time but to the future times”. Two of those sixteen dreams have bearing to the demise of the ‘Buddha Sāsana’.
It’s been shown that ‘Bahusacca mahanthatha’ (the over focus on acquiring knowledge) as one of the factors contributing to the demise of the ‘Buddha Sāsana’. The emergence of scholars from other disciplines is said to be unfavorable to the longevity of the ‘Buddha Sasana’.
That’s the first factor, the emergence of scholars. The next one is ‘Chirarāgnatha’ (the passage of time). When the ‘Buddha Sasana’ becomes older, it is said to be approaching its demise.
Another factor is ‘lābhagga manthatha’ (the over-focus on personal gains derived from the ‘Buddha Sasana’). If the ‘Bikkhu’, ‘Bikkhuni’, ‘Upāsaka’, and ‘Upāsika’ become greedy of personal gains, fame, and praise, that too is said to lead to the demise of the ‘Buddha Sasana’.The demise of the ‘Buddha Sāsana’, has been explained so, some 2600 years ago, by the Lord Buddha.
Since then, we have been calling ourselves ‘Buddhists’ and we have strived to safeguard the branches, leaves and the bark of the ‘Buddha Sāsana’ tree.
That too is good. The heartwood of a tree is protected by the leaves, bark and the branches alright. They too should exist. I won’t deny that.
But if we are to conclude on the ‘Buddha Sasana’ based on these things only, we would not be able to identify the heartwood of the ‘Buddha Sasana’ tree. Without that we would not be able to get out of the ‘samsara’.
We would not be able to become ‘Sōtāpannas’, ‘Sakādāmis’, ‘Anāgāmis’ and ‘Arahants’. We would not be able to attain the first, second, third and the fourth ‘jhana’ as well as the ‘Navāngukula nirödha’ (the cessation of mind following the eighth attainment).
If these desired results aren’t coming about, there’s no point having the branches, leaves, bark and the flowers of the ‘Buddha Sāsana’ tree.
It is in such times; we had the fortune of witnessing the works of ‘Abayarathanālankara’ Thero. He emerged to this world to revive the ‘Buddha Sasana’ tree, which was limited to mere branches, leaves and the bark. And to decorate it with heartwood.
“Durlabhō purisă jagnō, nasō sabbattha jāyati”. Noble men do not emerge everywhere in this world. “Yattasō jāyati dhirō, Samkulam sukha mēdati”. What would happen when they emerge, if at all?
Through their work, the others can attain great appeasement. ‘Abayarathanālankara’ Thero came into this world and revived the Noble Dhamma that was previously concealed.
He clarified all the hidden meanings and misconceptions over the Noble eightfold Path, Noble truths, ‘Sath-this Bodhipakkhiya dhamma’ (qualities conducive to awakening), ‘Thilakkana’ (the 3 characteristics of existence) and many more. He revived the Noble Dhamma.November 27,2015
But the Buddha Gotama has said that his Buddha Sāsana will last for 5000 years. We are only halfway through.

Pancakkhandha or Five Aggregates – A Misinterpreted Concept
We can see that Buddha Dhamma has become so contaminated over the past thousands of years. Fortunately, we still have the Tipiṭaka in close to its original form. The Buddha stated that his Buddha Sasana would last for 5000 years, and the way he made sure that would happen was to compose the suttā, as I described in the post, “Sutta – Introduction.”

Why are Tilakkhana not Included in 37 Factors of Enlightenment?
However, like anything else in this world, a “Buddha Sāsana ” or the “original Dhamma preached by a Buddha” lasts only for a certain time. For Buddha Gotama, his Sāsana is supposed to last only 5000 years (when the human lifespan is about 100 years), and we are halfway through.
The time span of each Buddha Sāsana is different because the average lifetime of humans keeps changing. Gotama Buddha Sāsana is supposed to be 5000 years long, with the average lifetime of a human being about 100 years. During the Buddha Sāsana of Buddha Kassapa, the human lifespan was about 20 000 years. Thus, we can guess that Sāsana lasted about 20,000 x 50 = about a million years.February 22, 2020
The Framework of Buddha Dhamma
That Wheel of the Dhamma is still in motion. It is supposed to be in effect for roughly 2500 more years for a total of 5000 years.“
” I’ve tried several times to delete it, but it doesn’t work. So I’ll just leave it as is.

Keymaster1. Thank you for summarizing the passages in my previous posts. It will help me revise them as needed.
- Also, you wrote: “
” I’ve tried several times to delete it, but it doesn’t work. So I’ll just leave it as is.”
- Sorry about that. It is a bug with the forum software. I have corrected them above. In the future, just leave them; I can easily correct them.
2. The following is the correct statement (which you quoted first):
- “There is a widespread belief that Buddha Gotama’s Buddha Sāsana will last 5000 years. However, I have not seen it in the Tipiṭaka. It could be in a later Commentary, but I have not seen such a commentary either.”
- Let me provide some evidence from the Tipiṭaka to confirm it.
3. The “Gotami Sutta (AN 8.51)” has the following verse (I have linked to that verse): “Sace, ānanda, nālabhissa mātugāmo tathāgatappavedite dhammavinaye agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajjaṃ, ciraṭṭhitikaṃ, ānanda, brahmacariyaṃ abhavissa, vassasahassameva saddhammo tiṭṭheyya. Yato ca kho, ānanda, mātugāmo tathāgatappavedite dhammavinaye agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajito, na dāni, ānanda, brahmacariyaṃ ciraṭṭhitikaṃ bhavissati. Pañceva dāni, ānanda, vassasatāni saddhammo ṭhassati.”
Translated: “But, Ānanda, if women had not obtained permission to bear the robes, the Buddha Sasana would have lasted 1,000 years. But now that I have given them permission, the Sasana will last only 500 years.”- However, at least one sutta says that as long as true Dhamma does not disappear, people will be able to attain Nibbana as long as there are living Sotapannas (or above) who can teach others. That is discussed below.
4. The Buddha emphasized that his teachings (among humans) will not disappear as long as there are at least Sotapannas among humans who can keep passing down the teachings to the next generation.
- That is in the “Mahāparinibbāna Sutta (DN 16)”: “Yasmiṁ kho, subhadda, dhammavinaye ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo na upalabbhati, samaṇopi tattha na upalabbhati. Dutiyopi tattha samaṇo na upalabbhati. Tatiyopi tattha samaṇo na upalabbhati. Catutthopi tattha samaṇo na upalabbhati. Yasmiñca kho, subhadda, dhammavinaye ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo upalabbhati, samaṇopi tattha upalabbhati, dutiyopi tattha samaṇo upalabbhati, tatiyopi tattha samaṇo upalabbhati, catutthopi tattha samaṇo upalabbhati. Imasmiṁ kho, subhadda, dhammavinaye ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo upalabbhati, idheva, subhadda, samaṇo, idha dutiyo samaṇo, idha tatiyo samaṇo, idha catuttho samaṇo, suññā parappavādā samaṇebhi aññehi. –Ime ca, subhadda, bhikkhū sammā vihareyyuṁ, asuñño loko arahantehi assāti.”
That means: “Subhadda, in whatever teaching and training the noble eightfold path is not found, there is no true Sotapanna, Sakadāgāmi, Anāgāmi, or Arahant. In whatever teaching and training the noble eightfold path is found, there is a true Sotapanna, a Sakadāgāmi, an Anāgāmi, and an Arahant. The noble eightfold path is found in this teaching (Buddha Dhamma) and training (Vinaya).
– As long as bhikkhus maintain the Ariya lineage, this world will have Arahants.”
5. I have extracted #3 and #4 above from the post, “Four Conditions for Attaining Sōtapanna Magga/Phala.” Those are #12 and #13 in that post.
- That post provides a complete explanation.
